Use Instructions & Limited Warranty & FAQ'sThank you for purchasing WindowAlert decals. Your purchase and the decals are subject to the WindowAlert Use Instructions and Limited Warranty set forth below. INSTRUCTIONS 1. WindowAlert decals may be used only on an exterior glass surface -- free of any overlay, tinting, film, or coating. (Most modern glass does not have coatings on the exterior; any coatings are safely located between double-panes. Contact your local glass contractor for confirmation.) 2. Clean glass first with water. Avoid use of chemicals such as ammonia or window cleaners. 3. Decals are best applied when glass is warm (ideally, above 50 degress Fahrenheit). If applied during winter months, clean glass with warm water prior to application. 4. Place decals alone or in groups every few feet on the outside of the window. 5. Position out of reach of infants and small children. 6. Restore static cling by rinsing decal in lukewarm water. 7. The UV coating may fade over time based on exposure and local elevation. Replace decals every 9 to 12 months. LIMITED WARRANTY 1. Subject to the limitations set forth herein, WindowAlert warrants that decals shall be free from defect in workmanship or material for a period of one year from the original date of purchase (“Warranty Period”). If WindowAlert is notified of a covered defect arising during the Warranty Period, WindowAlert will replace the decals free of charge to you. 2. WindowAlert shall not be responsible for any consequential or incidental damages of any nature or type whatsoever arising out of the use of the decals, including any damage to any product, glass or window to which the decals may be attached. Your sole remedy is the replacement of any defective decals, free of charge. NOTE: Some states do not allow the exclusion or limitation of consequential or incidental damages, so the above limitation or exclusion may not apply to you. This Limited Warranty gives you specific legal rights and you may also have other rights, which vary from state to state. Except for those other rights, if any, the remedies provided under this Limited Warranty are exclusive; there are no other obligations or responsibilities of WindowAlert. How many decals are in an envelope? • There are 4 WindowAlert decals in each envelope. Q. Do the decals adhere to the windows due to static electricity or is an adhesive involved? (How do the decals stick?) • The Maple Leaf, Butterfly, and Snowflake decals are “static cling” and remove easily from the window. • The Hummingbird decal design is more intricate and takes up less surface space than our other decals. This puts the hummingbird decal at greater risk for blowing off a window in strong winds. To prevent this, we use a “low tack” adhesive on the hummingbird decal. The “low tack” decals can be removed from the windows as well, but with a little more diligence. Q. Can you take the decals off of the windows and put them back on? • Yes. Restore the static cling by rinsing the decals in warm water. Make sure that the glass is clean where you intend to place them. • During the winter months, we suggest cleaning your window with warm water immediately prior to installing your decals. Q. Can you wash the windows with the decals on? • Yes, but we recommend that the decals be taken off the window and placed back on after the windows have been washed and dried. If you leave the decals on the window and use a squeegee to wipe down your window, it may leave a halo around the decal. This halo can be patted off the window with a clean towel. Q. Can you see the decals when viewed from the inside of the house? Or can you see through the decals? • You can see the silhouette of the decals. The decals have a frosted appearance. However, when it is dark outside at night, the decals can hardly be seen at all. Q. Do the decals work if they are placed on inside of the window? • The decals are approximately 25% as effective when attached to the inside of the window. When placed on the inside, this limits the effectiveness of the UV reflective coating. The decals are designed to work on the outside of the window. One of the things the decal does is to “break up” the expanse of the glass surface when on the outside. This does not occur when the decals are placed on the inside of the window. Q. Can the decals be placed on surfaces other than glass? • Because of the “static cling” provisions of the Maple Leaf, Butterfly, and Snowflake, these decals adhere best to glass surfaces. The Hummingbird decals may be applied to plastic or plexi-glass. • The decals should not be placed on windows that have overlays – such as tinting products. Q. How do i know if i have tinted glass? There are primarily TWO kinds of tinted windows: EXTERIOR TINT: Many older windows were treated with an exterior FILM or LIQUID COATING. Most of these coatings were after-market products. Most were guaranteed for a limited time, such as 3-4 years. Our decals should NOT be placed directly on THESE EXTERIOR COATINGS! If our decal is placed on such tinting products, our decal may in some instances accelerate the inevitable flaking and chipping of these tinting products. INTERIOR TINT: Today, after-market tinting products are most often applied to the INTERIOR side of glass. This protects the coating from degradation due to inclement weather, direct exposure to sun, etc. Because our decals should be applied to the EXTERIOR side of the glass, our decal touches only GLASS (not the tint coating) and there is no risk of damage. Glass that has been tinted at the factory today most often has the coating applied IN BETWEEN the double-paned glass. This is the best of all worlds in that no one can touch the tinted coating. The coating is not exposed to the elements and cannot be scratched during installation. Again, because our decals should be applied to the EXTERIOR side of the glass, our decal touches only GLASS (not the tint coating) and there is no risk of damage. You will need to check with a glass specialist to determine which kind of tinting product and/or glass that you have and if our decals are suitable for application on such glass. Q. How long will the decals last? • Our decals have a coating that brilliantly reflects ultraviolet light. Like any product, man-made or natural, our decals will degrade when exposed to the elements. Sunlight, inclement weather, and higher elevations will all result in faster degradation of the decals. Depending upon these variables, decals should be replaced every 9 to 12 months. CardinalAlert Q. What size is the cardinalalert decal? • The CardinalAlert decal is 48” by 6” and is designed to go at the bottom of the window glass near the window sill. Q. Why is the cardinalalert decal different than the other windowalert decals? • WindowAlert decals are designed primarily to help birds avoid inadvertent collisions with windows. • The problem you are experiencing relates to a bird (likely a male cardinal or robin) that has staked out a mating territory and is defending that territory against intruders. He perceives his own reflection in your windows to be an intruder and, in this case, attacks the glass on purpose. The CardinalAlert decal is designed for the most common territorial occurrence which is a bird mounting its attack from a windowsill perch. • Some consumers have experienced success, and others failure, in using our WindowAlert decals (instead of CardinalAlert decals) to prevent territorial birds from attacking. Q. Why doesn’t the cardinalalert decal stick to the window? • The CardinalAlert decal must be removed from the paper backing. The same side of the decal that was against the backing goes against the glass. Q. Does the low-tack adhesive remain on the window once the deal has been removed? • There may be some residue left on the window. To remove any low tack residue, the glass should be cleaned with a window cleaning liquid. PET BIRDS / INDOOR FLIGHT: WindowAlert decals may be used to help prevent injury to pet birds engaged in indoor flight. Results cannot be guaranteed. For best results, follow these steps: 1) The decal must be placed on the INSIDE of the glass for pet birds flying INSIDE the house. (NOTE: WindowAlert decals are designed for exterior use. If you choose to place the decals on the interior side of a window, you must place the decal only on a glass surface, free of any overlay, tinting, film, or coating. Please consult a licensed glass contractor for details on your glass.) 2) The bird should be allowed to fly only with ALL the lights turned on AND during daylight hours. 3) Normal, incandescent light bulbs work best for illuminating our decal on the inside of homes. 4) Our decals will vary in illumination based on home, room, season, time of day, and type of lighting. Different birds will perceive the decal in different ways. For this reason, we cannot guarantee success and suggest using great CAUTION when flying pet birds inside. To prevent injury, pet bird owners should carefully observe their pet bird and attempt to slowly acclimate the bird to indoor flight and our decals. | |||||
